I have been collaborating with Rosemary Wyndham Jones since 2023. Rosemary has a beautiful rural property on the dunes near the ocean, north of Auckland. She has a free herd of horses that have not been ridden. They live in their natural herd behaviours and to be amongst them is a truly special experience. Rosemary has many wonderful equine programs in which the horses teach us so much about ourselves. Dr Jealous inspired my idea to combine working with these horses as part of an osteopathic course. He used to talk about sitting in the woods and watching the animals. The more still you could become, the more they would come closer and reveal themselves to you. So it is in our contact with our patients. The courses over the last two years have shown me that getting outside into the natural world with the herd allows us to engage our wider senses, learn about ourselves, our behaviours and unconscious patterns and get out of our intellect. This is not only helpful, but a necessary aspect in learning the Biodynamic approach to Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. Working with the horses outside and then coming into the beautiful barn where we hold our lessons and practicals has provided a wonderful rhythm. Observing our own reactions, habits and strengths in a gentle way with the horses and then learning how to work with our patients, holding this wider awareness. The horses show us ourselves and make it easier to see things we may not realise. As practioners in this sensitive approach, this is an important part of the learning journey. The biodynamic principles taught in this osteopathic approach have also been easier to grasp in this way; as we learn them naturally using all of our senses being with and working with the horses under Rosemary’s expert, sensitive and wise guidance.

On our first course Rosemary ‘found’ this note ‘Health’ in the arena.

Thoroughly recommend this course.
The integration of Biodynamic Osteopathy and the beautiful natural world of horses on West Coast New Zealand is just magical.
